Travelling to Thailand

Notice: From 1st of July 2022 onwards, you are no longer required to apply for a Thailand Pass

Malagasy passport holders need to apply for a visa to enter Thailand.

As Madagascar no longer has a Local Thai Consulate, the Royal Thai Embassy in Pretoria will grant visas for non-SA residents, only for these countries (if the applicant is not in South Africa at the time of the application):

Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa, Zambia & Zimbabwe.

Health Requirements

You may have to show vaccination documents or negative test results if unvaccinated. This will continue while the emergency decree remains.

Required Documents

  1. Your actual current Passport. (Passport must not expire within less than 6 months, Passport must contain at least 2 completely empty visa pages)
  2. One original visa application form completely filled out. (The application form MUST be signed by the APPLICANT personally, unless applicant is a minor. A separate form is required for each applicant, regardless of age)
  3. Copy of passport. (The data page with name & photo & any previous Thai visas)
  4. Dummy TexCopy of ID document (for example ID card or driver’s license, not the same as passport)t
  5. DummIf you are not a national of the country you reside in, a copy of permanent residence or other permit.y Text
  6. 2 Passport Photographs of 2x2 inches. (Photos must be taken within 6 months, Photos must be colour)
  7. A copy of the return flight itinerary/reservation. (The name of the applicant must be indicated clearly)
  8. Proof of bookings for accommodation in Thailand. (This must correspond with travel dates on your ticket. If it is not a hotel or guesthouse booking, we also accept an invitation letter to visit Thailand which includes  a copy of ID card for Thai Host, or, passport and Thai stay permit for non-Thai hosts)
  9. A copy of recent bank statement for the last 3 months with a closing balance of 20,000 Thai Baht, or equivalent (US$700 per person) and 40,000 Thai Baht per family, or equivalent (US$1,500). (The name of the applicant must be indicated clearly. In case of submitting family bank statement a proof of relationship (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided, plus signed letter by sponsor).
  10. Proof of employment in your country of residence in the form of a recent signed letter by your employer. (If not employed, please write and sign a letter to attach to your application stating you are not employed and any reason if any you want to give, that you have sufficient funds to travel, etc.)
  11. For minor under 20 years old, please provide following documents
    • Certified copy of an unabridged birth certificate
    • Certified copy of original passports or ID of mother and father/ legal guardian
    • Original letter of notarized consent for the minor to travel abroad from mother and father/ legal guardian
    • In case of Divorce, Child Custody Letter from court in respect of the child is required. In case of deceased parent, copy of death certificate.
  12. Yellow fever vaccination card copy if you come from or have travelled to a yellow fever area

Application process

When you have collected and completed all the documents, you are required to contact the Royal Thai Embassy and send a scan of the documents for them to verify that you have all the required documents.

Once they give you their approval, you have to send the original documents along with your passport by courier (DHL, UPS, etc) to the Royal Thai Embassy in Pretoria.
